Thanks for the comprehensive description Leuba, it is indeed Surinam powderpuff tree. Have a good day my friend.
Calliandra surinamensis Benth., Lond. J. Bot. 3 (1844) Latin for 'from Suriname'. Description Shrub up to 6 m tall. Leaves alternate, compound, leaflets opposite, small, tripli-veined, glabrous. Flowers ca. 5 mm diameter, white-pink, protruding stamens, placed in umbell-like inflorescences. Fruits ca. 100 mm long, green, flattened pods. Ecology Introduced into tropical Asia, usually planted as an ornamental. Possibly able to colonize open vegetation types and regrowth. Uses Ornamental. Leaves are used as an ingredient for a medicine against an eye sickness. Distribution Originally from tropical South America. Introduced into tropical Asia. In Borneo known to occur in Sarawak and East-Kalimantan. Local names in Borneo Daun assam Jawa. @ Bong Ambutong - I am not able to find the article where I read about the similarities between the two - I will keep looking. the article talks about the introduction of the plant to tropical Asia. @ AnjaliAnantharam - thanks for making me look more closely at this plant - I love the great Albizia saman and grew-up with it all around us in India.
Thanks a lot Leuba for the ID and Anjali as well. Maybe Leuba is right its powderpuff tree. Still looking for any correct clue. Have a good day.
The surinam powderpuff tree is sometimes mistaken for the Raintree ( Albizia saman). The leaves of the plant in your photo are much smaller than those of the raintree suggestive of a powderpuff tree ( unless it is a bonsai of the raintree). I will post a reference for this when I find it..
