Thanks, @Karen and @StirredMocha for the ID :)
Looks like boat-shaped column dendrobium (Dendrobium cymbulipes) http://www.orchidspecies.com/dencymbulipes.htm
Almost like a duck mimic or bee mimic... but looks more like a lantern bug
Thanks for the info, @dan :) I read that there are more than 800 species of Orchids in Mt. Kinabalu, some websites even listed more than 1,000. Was looking out for them, but not many were in flowers though.
No problem Albert, glad to help. There is so much variation in orchids, there is no typical petals, per se. What you should look for is the lip, which is a characteristic of all orchids. Here, it is that small 'petal' above the V where the 2 sepals are fused together. The lip is always unique.
Thanks, @dan. Wasn't sure although the leaf on the right does looks like Orchid plant but the flower doesn't shows the petals of the typical Orchids.
Nice spot Albert. Nice to see you ask if you're not sure. I'd say yes, it is an orchid. As for genera I'm not sure. There is a great FB page for Orchid species, perhaps you could post it there for an ID.
