Field Notes

Description:

I found this yellow-bellied marmot on the Zig-Zag trail at Mt. Hood. I got fairly close before it ran back into its burrow.

Habitat:

There were various wild grasses and flowers (lupine and alpine aster) for the yellow-bellied marmot to feed on.

Oh wow! Thank you, Fyn! Maria, thank you very much! Bhagya, alpine marmots are even heavier (although, I think the yellow-bellies are cuter).
Very nice spotting - and your first mammal on Noah! Nice capture for your departure from butterflies. :>)
Your spotting has been nominated for the Spotting of the Week. The winner will be chosen by the Project Noah Rangers based on a combination of factors including: uniqueness of the shot, status of the organism (for example, rare or endangered), quality of the information provided in the habitat and description sections. There is a subjective element, of course; the spotting with the highest number of Ranger votes is chosen. Congratulations on being nominated!
