Field Notes

Description:

The only member of the genus crocuta, the spotted hyena looks similar to dogs, but is more closely related to the cat family. The females are dominant, allowing them to access more food and thus to better nourish their youngsters which require a long maturation period to build strength and mass necessary for hunting

Habitat:

serengeti

Notes:

There are many family groups of spotted hyena on the serengeti, well able to feed themselves due to the high concentration of prey animals especially during migration
