You're right Rachael, I missed the differences in the wings. You were the one to see it in person, so ultimately it comes down to your impressions, as well as your photos.
I've been looking at lots of dragonfly pics and they are all so similar! After looking at the website below I'm now leaning towards: Australian Emerald Hemicordulia australiae (male). The 4 coloured patches in the wings are black and in the yellow-stripped hunter they are yellow. http://photos.rnr.id.au/dragonflies2005.html
