Habitat:

Our group had an area in the thick woods. In theses woods there were a bunch of different types of trees like pine, oak, birch and beech. We found our mushroom on the edge of the thick woods.

Notes:

When we went to hunt mushrooms it was November 14th, 2011. It was very sunny but cold because it was the start of winter. There was still snow on the ground because of a October snowstorm. We went out once before this time to just scout out the mushrooms but that time we didn’t study the specimens. When we picked it up it felt very dry and when we brought it in it got even dryer. Our mushroom was not on it’s own. There was about 20 other mushrooms in the area where we found our sample. Almost 18 of the 20 were the same species of the one we found but we also found 2 other mushrooms. Identification of the other mushroom is unknown. I chose three characteristics that match up from my mushroom to an identified mushroom is that it is about 4cm tall and that matches what it should be, it is orange which matches the color it should be when its young, and that it has gills which the identified mushroom has as well.
