On November 14, 2011 my science class went outside to look for mushrooms. The day we went out there had been a snowfall before. The purpose of the mission was to see if we could identify any of the mushrooms that we found. The area that we looked in was near the paved road, in a small grassy area and near the edge of the woods. Most of the trees that were near the mushrooms were either pine or oak, but there were also some birch and maple scattered in the area. My group that I was looking for mushrooms with, ended up finding about six different types of mushrooms in our area. All the different individual mushrooms were very different from each other so they were all probably different mushroom species. We brought back the mushrooms that we found to do further investigating on them. I chose a gilled mushroom that was a orange/brown color. The stalk color was brown/orange and the cap color was a brownish color. My group found it near the woods near a small piece of moss. The gills were attached, the spore print color was a brown/gold color and there was no collar. The cap of the mushroom is round and measured about 1-2 centimeters. There was no odor on the mushroom, that I could smell, and it wasn’t very slimy. After doing research on this mushroom I think that the genus was Agaricus. There was also no common name for this that I could find I can’t find out the specific species for this mushroom. That is what I need to find out for my mushroom.
