Field Notes

Description:

Black body with two white spots on the dorsal side of each forewing. Abdomen is black with white stripes. The feet are mostly white as well.

Habitat:

Forest, on a maple tree

Notes:

It reminds me of a forester moth that I've seen before, just from the markings. BugGuide noted that some Desmia moths are similar, and by comparing pictures, I landed on that genus for this moth. I adjusted the brightness and contrast on these pictures a bit to bring out the colors--it was too dark before. Found at the Barbara A. Beiser Field Station.
