Field Notes

Description:

Large, ranging from 1 to 2 inches. Pretty intimidating!

Habitat:

Urban

Notes:

This hornet flew into my room when I had my window open. Loving bugs as much as I do, I thought it was great! I caught it and went about identifying it. The only Hymenopteran this large I knew of in my area was the cicada killer, a large wasp, but that turned out to be wrong. Had I known it was a European hornet at the time, I probably would have been more cautious whilst trying to catch it. Fun times with urban biodiversity!
