Field Notes

Description:

The blossoms of the Scotch Broom are so beautiful -- I wish it was not an invasive species in California.

Habitat:

Redwood timber forest.

Notes:

Cytisus scoparius has been introduced into several other continents outside its native range and is classified as a noxious invasive species in California and the Pacific Northwest in North America, and in Australia, New Zealand, and India. These shrubs commonly grow in disturbed areas and along utility and transportation right-of-ways. The prolific growth of this species after timber harvest inhibits reforestation by competing with seedling trees.

Thank you Antonio. I know this plant was brought here because of it's beauty. I'll look to see if there is a mission for US invasive species.
beautiful photos Misako, very common in ower portuguese landscape,it's the flower of may,we call her may flower. Invasive plants are a hugh global problem,i 'am been thinking that was important to have more missions to document that,in the various regions of the world.there are one about UK if i remember well
