Field Notes

Description:

Hesperiidae; Hesperiinae; Taractrocera luzonensis luzonensis Staudinger 1889. This Skipper Butterfly was rather scrappy when I saw it, yesterday morning, which suggests that it has been around for a few days, exposed to the usual wear and tear. However, I sharpened the pictures (perhaps rather excessively) until the wing markings could be seen well enough for identification. So, I am now reasonably sure that this is T. l. luzonensis, the Luzon Grass Dart.

Habitat:

Spotted in wild grasses in our backyard.
