Thanks martinl. Yes, I have learnt a lot from Project Noah and greatly appreciate the quick and friendly access to expert knowledge. It's already given me great pleasure identifying all the little plants and insects around these parts.
I have seen these before. You will find other smaller species locally and can now recognize them immediately. Project Noah has assisted me in ID things that I don't know - we're all here to learn and enjoy. The correct common name may be "Orange" rather than 'common' according to the link.
Thank you so much martinl. I sat-up most of last night going through every single insect/beetle - don't know how I missed it, especially with the spikey pro-notum asi in the reference you've provided. I did know though, that you would ID it for me !. Thanks again...
I am quite confident that this is an assassin bug. You clearly realize the value of presenting a series of pics, even a blurred one may be more useful in than out. Assassin bugs have a distinctive proboscis (partially visible in your pic#2 side view). Nice spotting Leuba.
Interesting - it is 'inverted' - rounded underneath and dished in the top - a bit like a dumper truck - maybe some kind of coreid - or stink bug?
