This bird does not show the distinct facial pattern nor the vibrant colors of the Purple Finch. Just your run-of-the-mill House Finch here.
Thanks Apple--at least I know it is a finch. I'll start researching more.
I cannot claim to be an expert either. Birds are not my specialty by any means, especially those in California. Looking more I also found the following: Common Redpoll. Which is also a similar finch.
Thank you for the information Apple! Do you think it matches more with the house finch above? The red is not as raspberry in my photo, but I am no expert.
