Field Notes

Description:

The posterior rim is serrated and there is a row of low vertebral spines on the carapace. The males can grow to be as large as 5 inches in carapace length. The females can grow to be up to 10 inches in carapace length.

Habitat:

Spotted on a log in the Sabine River in east Texas.

Notes:

This species is endemic to the United States. G. o. sabinensis exists only in the Sabine River of Louisiana and Texas.
