Field Notes

Description:

Adults are grey-olive on the upperparts with a grey head and a dark line through the eyes; the underparts are light becoming light orange-yellow on the lower breast and belly. They have a long black tail with white outer feathers. Western kingbirds also have a reddish crown that they only display during courtship and confrontations with other species.

These two live up the street from me and often sit on the wires and call to each other.

Thanks Antonio and Emma. These are double the size of lesser goldfinches and they sit differently.
could be confused with lesser gold finch?
Thanks Emma. They kindly sat still for me so I could get a few pictures.
Note the slight 'mask' and pale chine, both field marks of the Cassin's Kingbird.
