Glass Lizard
Ophisaurus ventralis
26.5608, -81.9093
Field Notes
Description:
This type of glass lizard has yellow stripes outlining his neck. Most people call this a glass "snake", but it's a type of lizard. Sometimes it sticks out it's tongue as defense to scare you. As you probably know snakes stick out their tongue to breathe, he is trying to scare you
Habitat:
Glass Lizards are very common in coastal dune habitats and are sometimes even found beneath debris at the tide line. They are found throughout the southern and eastern portions of Georgia and South Carolina and sometimes at the tip of Florida.
Notes:
This Glass Lizard was found in the screen enclosure of my house.
