Description:

Red and white sea urchin with thick red spines 5-6 inches long in hole.

Habitat:

Near shore tropical waters; coral reef ecosystem.

Notes:

Spotted at 5-inch reef off the Leeward coast of Oahu. Date cited is notional; may be as much as a year earlier. Also in the image is a hawkfish. Original medium photoprint taken with Nikonos V and flash; print later scanned and image saved as digital file.
