Description:

While every bit as intricate in structure as its relative, purple passionflower (P. incarnate) the pale flowers of this native vine are much smaller. The flower pictured here was only marginally bigger than my thumbnail. This is a major food plant for several species of butterfly larvae, and the only pollen source used by the unusual specialist bee, Anthemurgus passiflorae.

USA: AL , AR , DC , DE , FL , GA , IL , IN , KS , KY , LA , MD , MO , MS , NC , OH , OK , PA , SC , TN , TX , VA , WV
Native Distribution: PA to OH, s. IL, MO & e. KS, s. to FL, AL & TX
Native Habitat: Low, rocky, moist woods; thickets

Notes:

Spotted at a wooded detention/retention pond in an office building complex in Kennesaw, GA
