Habitat:

active volcano within tropical rain forest, just uphill from and windward of a tropical desert

Notes:

spotted outside Jagger Museum and Hawaiian Volcano Observatory; ohia is a widespread Hawaiian endemic species which has evolved several varieties in different local conditions; this one has pubescent leaves
