Definitely not a pineapple, though it is funny because we call them "tourist pineapples" here in Hawaii. This grows on a tree, the pineapple on a small bush. It is most likely the Tahitian Screw Pine, Pandanus tectorius .
Its a species of Pandanus, commonly known as Screwpine. Not sure which, there are a lot of species. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pandanus
I would guess that it is a type of Bromeliad and possibly one of the types of Ananas (pineapple). While the plant looks right, the fruit does not look like any pineapple that I have ever seen growing.
