very rigid, rich brown and grey color, about 3" across

Habitat:

temperate forest

Notes:

I spotted this in the Foping National Nature Reserve in the Qinling mountains, about 5 hours drive from Xi'an.

Thanks courtney and Sarah for the ID. I seem to spot a lot of these turkey's tail. Even though it was not the season for fungi in Foping, I still managed to spot about 30 species. I have a black and grey fungus that looks sort of like this too. I will try to upload sometime soon.
Medicinal qualities of this fungi include cancer therapy!
