Black-necked Stilt

An elegant wading bird found in the southern west and east coasts of the United States along with the interior west and southwest down to northern South America. Additionally, an endangered subspecies exists in the few freshwater marshes in Hawaii. Eggs are laid in simple mounds of various flotsam and chicks are born covered in down, ready to leave the nest within a few hours.
