Description:

When I first found this Lil guy I was confused. It was yellow, brown ,short wings, and crazy green abdomen. After two hours I went back and found a Luna Moth!! After looking online I have determined that I found the Luna moth right as it emerged from its pupa! Awesome find :))

Yes, very nice. The abdomen is "caterpillar" size because it has just come out of the pupa stage, as snorman said. As it pumps fluid from it into the wings, the abdomen gets smaller as the wings get larger. From the antennas we can see its a male, by the way. Scientific name: Actias luna. http://bugguide.net/node/view/562
I have added more photos! I checked on it and two hours later viola!
This has thrown me for a loop too.... almost looks like a cross between a cecropia and an imperial moth. But that abdomen is just plain weird. Is this thing real?
