Field Notes

Description:

Seems to be an insect inside a flat diamond shaped husk. Husk is mottled grey, probably for bark. Body, which I originally thought was a proboscis of some sort, appears segmented and light brown. Tablespoon for comparison. Insect is about 15 mm including husk.
