white Great camas
Camassia quamash; Camassia leichtlinii
43.2165, -123.342
Field Notes
Description:
white florets on a foot-high stem; leaves like grass but wider, coming from the center from the ground
Habitat:
grass
Notes:
At first I thought this was the poison false camas, but a local Native person told me that camas comes in this color in that area, and the plant is far more like the real camas than like the death camas, other than the color of the flowers. It turns out that the white form is native only to this Umpqua River valley.
