Description:

Light green prickly pear cactus

Habitat:

Spotted in dry, dusty area on a trail by Lake Hodges.

I looked at your spotting just a moment ago and believe it is Durango. The last picture is the same I think, many of the pads were damaged and the lighting makes it looks like the spines are bigger. I can delete the last photo, sorry for the confusion. I'll add the ID for Durango, thanks! :)
Hi Coral, the last picture is a different variety (the spines are different -- much nastier!). The first three pictures may be a Durango Prickly Pear if the pads were really as round and blue as they look in these pictures. See this: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/7329208 Durango isn't native to CA but many plants get loose from gardens over time. Same with the nasturtiums you saw.
