Field Notes

Description:

Highly mimetic spider with egg cases

Habitat:

Lower branches of blackwood tree (Acacia).

Notes:

spider #2b
Trying to photograph the whole spider, I tapped her and she refused to move at all. There were about 12 egg sacs and most had holes and were empty. They looked like galls but gave her position away,
Another specimen, spotted earlier is included in the series to more clearly illustrate this spider. http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/8153240

Argybee I think this is the normal port for hatching of these tiny spiderlings. A quick search for other online egg clusters shows this is a common feature, and each nest has a spider guardian. This suggests your 'ball on string' may have hatched normally also.
Fabulous! Do you think some of these have been raided by wasps?
