Field Notes

Description:

Libellulidae; Diplacodes trivialis (Rambur, 1842). The dragonfly shown here seems to match very well with the one shown in a spotting by Juan Manuel - https://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/27529002 - the pterostigma looks exactly the same and the general overall colouring of the eyes, the thorax and the abdominal segmants look the same. All of these also match with a picture of a female specimen in Wikipedia. So, I am fairly confident that the identification is correct.

Habitat:

Spotted in our front yard, this morning, flying only in very short "hops" and resting, for a moment or two, each time it landed on plants in a flowerbed.
