I checked all three links and the pinned speciman on the BOA site that is a female from mexico is quite similar. I went back to the link to see the differences and there almost none. I will definitely agree that some sites have posted incorrect information. I also agree that there is always the possibility of genetic variance over long distances, especially from the Yucatan to Costa Rica or from Paraguay to Costa Rica. I hope the Nicaragua link that I posted earlier is correct because the similarities in the hindwing post medial area and medial area are nearly exact. I shall leave it as unidentified as you mentioned.
I did a recheck. The chance that my ID is wrong is higher that the mixing-up of the figures in a book, so I would change my ID in Taygestis sp., with that you are definitely on the save side.
I can't tell you the differences and I can't judge the shot of Laches on BOA, it is too dark. Usually I would never question an ID from experts, since I am not really, but I know also that some of IDs in the mentioned book and even on BOA are wrong. However, BOA is quite a reliable source. For me the picture of Laches looks like Thamyra and yours looks like Thamyra too. But certainly I might be completely wrong, to more you ID the greater is the risk to get once a wrong one and I am open for any discussion! If you like I can ask Isidro for checking his book. In addition I must say that Thamyra is quite variable, which would in this case excuse a wrong ID from my part ;-)... http://butterfliesofamerica.com/taygetis_thamyra_live1.htm http://butterfliesofamerica.com/taygetis_thamyra_specimens.htm http://www.butterfliesofamerica.com/L/taygetis_l_laches_types.htm
Could it be that we will have a nice little discussion ;-)... OK, I will check.
Bayucca, I can't find one reference link for this one. However, in my book butterflies and moths of Costa Rica by InBio/Chacon/Montero there is one species that looks very similar...the taygetis laches laches. Can you explain the differences before I make the changes here on the page please?
