Field Notes

Description:

Tree, ca. 20 feet tall. Tree flowers before leaves emerge.
Flowers, cluster of green-yellow buds/flowers surrounded by four large, white bracts. Bracts ca. 1.5-2 inches diameter. Bracts often have red spots at their tips.

Habitat:

Tree growing on east-facing shore of lake.

Notes:

Images 1, 2 are buds observer on March 21st; image #3, flowers on same tree have opened.
