Description:

Common bobcat

Habitat:

This bobcat is a resident in the coastal hills of Santa Cruz County close to Aptos, California. S/he was hunting in our secluded backyard, perched up on a hill opening to the mixed Oak, Redwood, Cypress, and Madrone woods beyond.

Thanks for the feedback and the welcome. I've seen this cat on three occasions now. Twice, he was hunting in this same fashion. Doesn't seem terribly concerned about people, but keeps a distance. Fun to spot!
Nice! looks similar to what visits my back garden. Bobcat is the common name.

Excellent spotting! You are very lucky to have these in your backyard. I once saw one in the wild in a South Carolina forest. The most beautiful creature I have ever been lucky enough to be within 15 feet of. (at least in the wild).
