Description:

This was one of about 10 that flew in to forage in a meadow. The first pic shows one with a small prey. Short stocky neck compared to other herons. Non breeding plumage.

Habitat:

Spotted in a meadow near the Rio Grande River.

Notes:

The species first arrived in North America in 1941.
