Field Notes

Description:

It grows to a height of about 4 m, although it can reach 10. It has palmate leaves divided into many leaflets -from 24 to 32-, and they are usually green or bluish in color depending on the variety. Petioles usually have straight spines up to 3 cm long, yellow in color.
It is a dioecious species, that is, there are male feet and female feet. The flowers appear grouped in inflorescences between the leaves, and produce fleshy, round-shaped fruits, reddish or blackish when they finish maturing, towards autumn.

Habitat:

Dune area next to the Mediterranean Sea. El Saler (Valencia). This palm is distributed along the Mediterranean coast, found in countries such as Italy, Spain or Greece.
