Field Notes
Description:
Similar to R. conjunctipes found in the Pacific Northwest based upon description found in Mushrooms of North America by Phillips. It is said to turn a mauve color when bruised and there are some mauve bruised areas upon this specimen found on the lower trails of Old Man's Cave in Hocking Hills Logan, Ohio. Many hemlocks within area of a mostly deciduous forest.
Notes:
This one is a tough one for a newbie fungi lover to figure out. I tried identifying by some guide books and it is most similar to the R. conjunctipes located in the Pacific Northwest- I am in Ohio. reason being, the mauve bruising is one of the identification characteristics of R. conjunctipes. The other Ramaria spp. did not list the mauve bruising characteristic. Any help with the identification of this fungi would be greatly appreciated!
