Field Notes

Description:

Colourful green-yellow-orange sawfly larvae with black heads 25mm

Habitat:

On Melaleuca quinquenervia.

Notes:

These sawfly totally destroy my young paperbarks each year.
When the larvae are very small they only eat the soft parts of the leaf leaving a skeleton of veins. See here... www.projectnoah.org/spottings/9364491

Nice... and high fives all round.
Ha! we did it again martin. I was editing and when I finished you had a suggestion. Thanks - it's the same as I found on a German site.... http://www.pergidae.net/pl006.htm
Consider this one; Lophyrotoma zonalis, http://www.saveourwaterwaysnow.com.au/01_cms/details_pop.asp?ID=1352
Hi martin - I've been looking at that link and because the food type is wrong I'm determined to identify exactly what plant this is - will post again. Enjoy Buxton.
Now this does look like the green longtail sawfly. But the foodplant is wrong including eucalyptus and Angophora (tree) http://www.brisbaneinsects.com/brisbane_sawflies/GreenLongTailedSawfly.htm I go to Buxton tomorrow and will find some more:)
