Maroon fungus growing in a dead log. Velvet like surface. The insect in the second picture is a bonus.

I do try - but get it wrong more often then not! :)
In the other hand, the site shown bellow says that both names, wood ear and cloud ear are both used for the same fungus, Auricularia auricula-judae. That is why I usually leave the naming to people who knows how to do it!!! . http://botit.botany.wisc.edu/toms_fungi/apr2004.html
