Field Notes

Description:

Crown and back sandy buff, Basal half of tail creamy white, otherwise black. Wings blackish brown. Throat and sides of head black. Buff white below. Females greyer with wings and tail lighter brown with rufous-brown ear-coverts. Eats insects, largely beetles. Was digging in the beach sand for food and was moving, constantly wagging the tail and not staying at one place for long.

Habitat:

Arid, Semi-desert and canal irrigated desert. Seen on a beach where it might be a winter visitor.
