Field Notes

Description:

This day gecko has a body colour varying between grayish green, grayish brown and bluish green, and its tail is bluish. A rust-coloured stripe can be seen extending from the nostril to the eye. The back has reddish coloured dots. A gray lateral stripe extends from the eye to the hind leg. Not as colourful as other day geckos, but doesn’t deserve its name!

Habitat:

Building wall surrounded by garden, coastal.

Notes:

Distribution: west coast of Madagascar in the general area of Majunga, Comoros, Zanzibar, and some coastal areas of mainland Tanzania.
Inhabits trees, lowland vegetation and buildings. A daily visitor to my balcony and room during an extended stay in Zanzibar.

Thanks Goody! Yes you do wonder about common names sometimes :-) I guess this guy is unfortunate as there are more colourful species in the genus Phelsuma...
I'm sure it's already been said, but I don't think there's anything "dull" about this beauty. Great shots!
I can't get over how adorable that face is.
Thanks Dan! He was my friend for two weeks, helping with mosquitoes and ants... They've reached the mainland by boat.
Nice! I didn't know there were Phelsuma species on the mainland. Great catch!
animaisfotos and KatCuff, thanks for your kind comments!

Thank you DominguezLopezMoi. Welcome to Project Noah!
