Field Notes
Description:
Recognised by long, flattened bill seen in both sexes. Male has striking plumage compromising green head, black and white on body and reddish chestnut flanks. Female is mottled brown and seldom see outside the company of a male. Both sexes have green speculum and pale blue wing panel on forewing.
Habitat:
Widespread but local on marshes.
Notes:
Best known as a non-breeding visitor, present October-March.
