Field Notes

Description:

Back orange grizzled with black, sides paler and grater. Nape usually deep orange. Ears short in northern parts of range, linger in warmer regions, edged whitish and tipped black and sometimes has white blaze on forehead. Eye-rings cream. Tail gray-brown above with a narrow White edge. Cottony white below

Habitat:

Thickets and old fields, edges of hardwood forest, farmland, prairies and swamps.
