Description:
It took me few days of looking into these, digging through the net and books, and finally a help from one of those phone apps to understand what I was looking at... These seems to be the young shoots of Beech, freshly germinated from seeds, with only the two cotyledon leaves fully developed. The next stage is ready, and a shoot with real leaves coming up from that central bud.
Habitat:
This is very common tree in forests in and around Jura mountains, found on slopes of mountains as well as in valleys. Here, stumbled upon it just next to a pathway through the forest (mixed forest) on slopes of Jura mountain range.
