Field Notes

Description:

This is a a damselfly of the family Coenagrionidae that occurs over much of North America. It typically is found along swift currents of rivers and lakes with emergent stones and rocky shores. It has captured prey best visible in the 4th photo.

Habitat:

Spotted on an urban nature trail (South Creek Greenway Trail) on the edge of the muddy bank of South Creek in Springfield, Missouri.
