Field Notes

Description:

Slim, white long legged bird that eats fish, crabs and amphibians. They are generally seen on their own near to freshwater reservoirs.

Habitat:

There are around 60 different Ardeidae species around the world. They are freshwater and coastal birds.

Notes:

They are very common in Uruguay - where I live - but I took the picture in Praia do Forte, Florianópolis, Brazil.

I guess it may be considered an egret too... According to wikipedia: "An egret is any of several herons, most of which are white or buff, and several of which develop fine plumes (usually milky white) during the breeding season."
