Field Notes

Description:

Approximately 100mm long highly mimetic looking like long eucalyptus leaves.

Habitat:

On eucalyptus trees.

Notes:

Found on Muehlenbeckia against white stone wall.
Wish I had known more about them then... but now we have martinl.
This one really reminds me of a leaf of bamboo and the male reminds me of a stick of bamboo.

Thanks for that info Martin. Still finding more which is good.
Your referenced image and possibly your spotting are sub adult females. She will be fully winged as an adult. Still poor fliers. Even though she imitates a leaf, the skinny male imitates a stick and these are true stick insects. Not rare in Victoria but rarely seen.
