I previously had this bird ID'ed, but I have misplaced my books.

Nope. Mockingbirds a in a completely different family. They will be a more uniform grey with black on the wings, and a much longer tail.
Not sure if they have any in Nicaragua, but it looks like a Cinclodes: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cinclodes I am pretty confident that this is a species of Ovenbird, just not sure if any of the Cinclodes are found in Nicaragua.
