Description:
A second Buck Moth species for San Cristobal de Las Casas. The first three pictures are of the male (taken May 4th 2013), the 4th and 5th pictures are of a female (taken May 17th 2013). The female had much more pink coloring on the wings. Family Saturniidae.
Habitat:
Both came to an ultraviolet light in the garden, San Cristobal de Las Casas, 2,200 meters.
Notes:
The second picture was taken in the same place on May 4th 2013 and shows it's defensive behavior when touched and the striped abdomen.The 2nd picture is of a remarkably pink phenotype, spotted on May 17th, 2013.
