Field Notes

Description:

1mm long body. Deer ticks are potential carriers of Lyme disease, human anaplasmosis and babesiosis.

Notes:

I found this little guy on me this evening - I must have picked him up during my walk in the woods earlier in the day. Unfortunately we get a lot of ticks around here in the summer & fall, but I'm really shocked to find one in the middle of winter.

Cindy, I usually I don't spot them until I find them attached to me when I shower - not cool at all! :) Alice, thanks for the warning. I pick up 5 or 6 of these guys every week in the summer no matter what precautions I take. Even if I wear long sleeves & long pants they somehow find a way in, & even drenching myself with deet only has the effect of making me feel ill! They are such tenacious little b's. I did get tested for lymes last year & was positive for the antigens but thankfully only at a low level.
You know enough to look for a rash circle to make sure he didn't leave you something you do not want!?
