Field Notes

Description:

Has neat little leaf shaped hind legs, and very distinct zig-zag pattern across wings.
about 1" in length
Is very shy (tried to hide under the leaf when it noticed me, but then came back out when I was deemed a non-threat).

Habitat:

found in our back yard, and all over most of the city here (anywhere there is green these guys are there).
we have a lot of rain here, nearly marshy ground, currently the weather has been really cloudy.
They like to hide in shade and under leaves.

This is a type of leaf-footed bug, but I don't think there is a proper, common name for this particular species. And yes, it is related to assassin bugs. This sheet also explains a bit about it: http://entnemdept.ufl.edu/creatures/citrus/leptoglossus_zonatus.htm
