Field Notes

Description:

A few inches long, patterned in black, yellow, and amber.

Habitat:

Forest--dead wood.

Notes:

This particular individual is a male, indicated by the lack of an ovipositor. It's also smaller than the female. This male was part of a swarm of around 7 individuals that were flying around this dead wood cast in sunlight. Whenever I would get too close, they would fly away, but settle back down soon after. Found at Barbara A. Beiser Field Station.
