Yeah, the Myriapods can be confusing when you first start tackling them. I'm not sure what the "tractor" millipedes include, I try to stick with the scientific nomenclature with the millipedes, common names get way too confusing for me. To me, it looks like it's a millipede in the order Polydesmida, which might include the tractor millipedes you're referring to. http://bugguide.net/node/view/5251
That's the reason for the question mark. Thanks for the tip. I had only noticed that he was dull with the mud from recent rains and didn't pick up on the mites. Could it be one of the 'tractor' millipedes?
This is a millipede, not a centipede: it has two legs per segment. It looks like it has some mites hitching a ride on it in the second picture.
